Ringlock procurement guidance
A ringlock base collar may be a small starter component, but it sets up the first connection between the adjustable base and the lower ringlock bay. Before requesting a quotation, turn that simple description into a clear interface review. It helps the purchasing team ask for compatible parts and gives the site team a more usable starting point for its approved erection plan.
Start with the component’s job, not its name
A base collar is used at the bottom of a ringlock assembly to create the first connection point for the lower level. In practical terms, it must relate correctly to the support below it and to the standard, ledgers, and braces above it. A label such as “starter collar” is not enough information for an order.
Keep the request connected to the full ringlock base collar assembly rather than treating the collar as a stand-alone spare. The responsible designer or competent person should confirm the intended configuration, load path, and erection method before equipment is selected or used.
Use a four-part interface review
1. Identify the system family
State the ringlock system and the components that will meet at the collar. Record the relevant standard, ledger, brace, and base arrangement. Do not assume that parts with similar names or a familiar appearance can be mixed across systems. Ask the supplier to identify the compatible component family in its quotation and supporting product information.
2. Describe the lower support
The order brief should say whether the collar is intended to sit with an adjustable base arrangement and should capture the information the approved design requires for the support condition. If the purchase includes jacks, request them as part of the same technical conversation with a base jack manufacturer, so the receiving team is not left to reconcile separate assumptions after delivery.
3. Specify the required connection evidence
Ask for the drawing, product identification, material and finish information, and the documents applicable to the proposed market and project. Match part numbers across the quotation, packing list, and delivery labels. If a drawing revision is issued, confirm whether it changes the collar, the connected standard, or the lower support arrangement before releasing the order.
4. Plan the receiving check
Decide who will compare the delivered collar against the approved order and where that record will be kept. At receipt, separate unfamiliar, damaged, or undocumented components for review instead of allowing them into a mixed stock area. This keeps the site team from having to identify an unlabelled part during an urgent setup.
Questions worth putting in the enquiry
- Which ringlock system family and connected components are included in this request?
- What drawing or product reference defines the collar and its lower support interface?
- Which finish, marking, packaging, and delivery identification are required for the destination and receiving process?
- What documents should accompany the shipment so the purchaser can match the delivered parts to the approved configuration?
- Who will resolve a discrepancy before the components are issued for site use?
For projects that also involve temporary support, keep the enquiry boundaries clear. A collar belongs to a ringlock access or support configuration only when the approved project information says so. Where the work calls for adjustable shoring props, request the shoring system on its own stated design basis instead of substituting components by description alone.
Turn the review into a cleaner handoff
Attach the component schedule, current drawing reference, destination, quantity, and required documents to the request for quotation. Then make one person responsible for comparing the supplier reply to that record. A concise handoff reduces avoidable clarification loops and leaves a traceable reason for every component included in the package.
