  • Reusing clamps with stripped threads or cracked bodies. They are cheap to replace and expensive to fail.
  • Forgetting to re-tighten after the first load cycle. New connections bed in, and a quick re-check after the scaffold has been loaded once catches most of the slack.
  • Mixing tube sizes or systems within one structure.
  • Skipping bracing to save time. Bracing is what stops the scaffold from racking under load.

Inspection and maintenance

A properly installed scaffold is only as good as the checks that follow it. Inspect the scaffold before first use, after any event that could affect it — high winds, heavy rain, or impact from plant — and at regular intervals during the job. Pay attention to couplers near the base, which take the heaviest loads, and to any clamp that has been knocked or adjusted. Keep spare couplers on site so damaged ones can be replaced on the spot rather than left in service.
