As a general guide, anchor points should sit no more than about 2 m above the standing level when attached to ledgers, and no more than about 1 m above when attached to a rosette. Always check the fall clearance below, including the lanyard length and any obstacles on the ground.
  • Anchor to a properly supported standard. The rosette you tie to should be on a standard supported by two or more ledgers connected to the same ring, ideally creating an angle close to 90 degrees between them. The standard must also be positively pinned to the standard below it.
  • Never improvise. Do not wrap lanyards around loose tubes, wedges, or unapproved fittings. Use only certified fall arrest devices and hardware rated for the load.

  • Tie at the node. Locate tie-ins adjacent to a ringlock node where a ledger is present, with the connection point within about 300 mm of the node. Where a steel coupler is used for the tie member, connect it to the ringlock standard with a right-angle coupler.
  • Never remove ties early. During dismantling, wall ties must be removed layer by layer from the top down. Removing them in advance is a common cause of collapse.

Bracing keeps the system square

Diagonal bracing works hand in hand with wall ties. It provides lateral stiffness and resists horizontal loads, and it is typically arranged in lattice, V-shaped, or X-shaped layouts.
