Shoring System Manufacturer: Build a Component-Family Approval Sheet Before Release

Start with the support task, not a catalogue label

Shoring is temporary support, but the component choice is project-specific. The approved design, method statement, and site conditions must establish the required arrangement. A buyer’s document should not attempt to redesign the support or assign load limits. Its job is narrower and valuable: translate the approved requirement into an unambiguous supply request.

Record the work area, the formwork interface, the planned sequence of use, and the responsible party for technical approval. Then identify the family of components that the request covers. Keeping that boundary visible prevents a quotation for individual parts from being mistaken for confirmation of a complete engineered arrangement.

Create one approval sheet for each component family

An approval sheet works best when it follows the way the package will be identified at dispatch and receipt. It can be a controlled page in the enquiry pack rather than a lengthy specification manual. Include these fields:

• Family name and project reference: identify the support package and the drawing or approved document it relates to.
• Component roles: separate vertical support, horizontal connection, bracing, adjustable interfaces, and any associated formwork connection items.
• Interface notes: state the required connection or fit information supplied by the approved project documentation; do not replace it with assumptions.
• Supply boundary: distinguish supplied components from project-provided items, installation work, and engineering approval.
• Identification method: specify how the family, quantity list, and packing list will refer to the same package.

Make the supplier conversation evidence-led

Ask the supplier to respond to the approval sheet line by line. The response should confirm what is being quoted, flag any unavailable item, and identify any proposed alternative as a separate item requiring review. This avoids treating a commercial substitution as an approved technical change.

For a package that includes frames, braces, or adjustable items, a steel frame system description alone is too broad. The sheet should connect each quoted item to its role and to the applicable project reference. This gives the buyer a practical way to compare quotations without relying on vague labels.

Carry the same record through dispatch and receiving

Use the approved family name on the purchase order, packing list, and receiving checklist. At receipt, compare the shipment with the stated item descriptions and quantities, isolate discrepancies, and route technical questions back to the responsible project reviewer. Do not use the receiving check as a substitute for inspection or approval required by the project.

Release only after the boundaries are visible

Before release, check that the technical reference is named, each component family has an identifier, proposed alternatives are separated, and the order does not imply design approval that has not been given. These small controls make handovers easier to follow and reduce avoidable clarification after material arrives.
